Now that it’s 2017, you’re probably hearing the mantra “new year, new me” from just about everyone you know and meet. While an excellent mantra indeed, the 616 Tribe is putting a little spin on it this year—”new year, new decor.” What better time to give your apartment a facelift than at the start of a new year? Check out a few 2017 interior design trends below to incorporate into your space this year.
1. The Color Green
Named Pantone’s Color of the Year 2017, Greenery (15-0343) is obviously trending in 2017. Incorporating splashes of green into your space with furniture, pillows, house plants, and artwork will inspire feelings of revitalization and refreshment into your living space—which will also help transfer these elements into your life!
2. Varying Textures & Patterns
Say goodbye to the same ol’, same ol’ and welcome a variety of textures and patterns into your space. The Mixed Patterns trend was first introduced at New York Fashion Week last fall, which is a big influence of upcoming trends for home decor. If you’re a lover of chevron, polka dots, paisley, or florals, no need to stick to just one or two patterns this year. Patterns with a similar color scheme will still work well together in 2017.
In addition to patterns, various textures are also trending this year. Incorporating a variety of textures into your home—such as velvet, cotton, faux fur, and tweed—adds dimension and a sense of comfort to your space.
3. Cork Walls
While you probably can’t easily install a full-length cork wall in your apartment, you can still find ways to incorporate the cork trend into your space. Cork is both a sustainable and practical material, and can even help block out sound (perfect for if you have roommates!) If dedicating an entire wall to cork material isn’t a viable option for you, invest in some cork accents, like cork-filled vases, or large cork boards to lean up against your wall.
4. Jewel Tones
Jewel tones are a beautiful complement to greenery, 2017’s color of the year. Amethyst, ruby, sapphire, and quartz accents really pop against larger green pieces, like wall color, furniture and art. These deep, rich colors also add to the comfortability of your space, naturally allowing guests to feel invited and right at home.
