Summertime in West Michigan is beach time! With destination lakeshore cities Holland, Grand Haven and Muskegon a mere 30-45 minute drive from Grand Rapids, there’s no reason you can’t grab your bag and hit the beach any time you want.
So where’s the best place to go? All the lakeshore cities offer wonderful city parks and dune parks which are great for swimming; for hikers, there are acres of dunes and stairs to climb.

Kirk Park – a quick 30 minute drive from Grand Rapids, this 68 acre park has white sand beaches, high bluffs and wooded dunes. Roam nature trails on wooden stairways for some great views, or stick to sunbathing on the beach.
Rosy Mound Natural Area – the perfect place for more adventurous beachgoers to roam. A 0.7 mile hiking trail which leads from the parking area to the shoreline includes 1,000 feet of dune stairs and scenic views of wooded dunes, a dune blowout and Lake Michigan’s shoreline. 40 minutes from Grand Rapids.
Mt. Pisgah Dune Boardwalk – incredible dune boardwalk madly newly accessible in 2008 with a new stair system. The trek culminates at the 157 apex, with breathtaking views of the surrounding lakes. Another quick 35 minute jaunt.
Tunnel Park – this small Holland beach park is another perfect spot for a quick beach getaway. Walk through the dune tunnel or climb the dune stairs to pristine white sand beach access. This one is – you guessed it – 35 minutes away from GR.
